The Benefits Of Ergonomic Courtroom Furniture

Monday, February 25th, 2013

The design of a courthouse courtroom needs to be well planned out. It is not simply a room. A courtroom is an architectural structure open to the public and serves as a representative of a justice system designed to protect the security and rights of American citizens.

To represent the American government as a creditable institution, a courtroom’s interior design must give off the impression of high security, durability, modern efficiencies and flexibility.

This article will provide you valuable information on furnishing a courtroom for utmost comfort and functionality.

Although courtrooms are places of business, courtrooms should be designed in a way that warmly welcomes the public. This can be accomplished with an eye-catching entry and a room layout that comfortably accommodates courtroom occupants such as the jury, judge and lawyers.

The best courtroom designs are the ones that reflect on the historical values of America while incorporating state-of-the-art technology and comfort for all parties.

The courtroom should provide court occupants plenty of natural light from windows and roof sunscreens. This will not only improve the temperament of the courtroom but also the energy management system of the building to strengthen energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the building structure.

Since courtrooms are usually located on the upper floors of the courthouse, it is important that the courtrooms are designed as highly aesthetic spaces.

Here are some key design features:

  • Separate circulation patterns for public, prisoner and judiciary members.
  • Accessibility lifts and ramps for clerks and jury box areas.
  • Ergonomic Jury seating. Swiveling chairs that feature upholstered seats are perfect for jury seating. For spectator seating we recommend wooden pews or upholstered auditorium seating. Ergonomic chairs are a must in the courtroom because defendants and the jury need relief from back and neck strain that result from prolonged sitting.

Check out Edwards & Hills Office Furniture’s Government Furniture Lines for more information on courtroom ergonomic seating and other ergonomic furniture options.

How To Design Quality Preschool Classrooms

Friday, February 15th, 2013

In President Obama’s State of the Union Address, a universal preschool initiative was proposed. The President wants to extend preschool to all American 4-year olds to address inequity in the education system.

In an effort to meet this needs our schools will need to be adequately furnished.  What features are included in high quality preschool classrooms? It is time to prepare.

Edwards & Hill Office Furniture is here to design and furnish preschool classrooms.  We also furnish and install, auditorium seating and lecterns, library furniture, Smart boards and projectors, and that is just a small sampling of what is needed for the ideal preschool classroom.  The atmosphere should promote good classroom flow and set a positive learning environment for children.

Many children from low-income families miss out on the educational benefits of daily bedtime stories, music lessons, and head start learning programs (examples: number games, science lessons, and writing skills).

Studies have shown that preschool programs help prepare children not only for formal school but also increase their job readiness for professional careers.

When shopping for quality preschool furniture, think kid friendly for bedding, toys, seating, tables and accent pieces.

Preschool furniture should be fun, simple and orderly. The School furniture should also be appealing to all ages with bright colors (bright reds, apple greens, bright pinks, cerulean blues) and patterns.

Look for theses features in preschool furniture:

  • Purchase furniture with oak or plank wood materials. The wood materials are durable and highly resistant to wear and tear.
  • Purchase child sized furniture items to fully accommodate small children.
  • Seating and bedding should be soft and cozy – flat seat pans, beanbags, sofas and carpet squares are great selections.
  • School furniture should also promote collaborative work. You can meet collaborative learning needs by purchasing durable, flexible furnishings such as arch shaped desks. Active learning environments are important for preschool students because students have a better opportunity to stay engaged and energized.

Here at Edwards & Hill we offer a wide variety of educational furniture and laboratory applications.

How To Make A Great Business Impression With Your Office Design

Sunday, October 14th, 2012

If you’re redesigning the office, Edwards & Hill Office Furniture is here to provide you some great office design tips to properly develop a professional design plan.

It is important to pay attention to detail in your office design because your office is a direct representation of your business and its level of professionalism. Your top priority in your office design is to make a good impression when clients come to your office.

The following design tips will help you make a great business impression:

Use Neutral Colors And Earth Tones. Colors matter, from wall colors to curtain fabrics, to establish an overall comfortable office environment. Soft, neutral colors often give the impression that your office environment is comfortable and welcoming. Try using earth tones such as blues, greens and grays to create an inviting atmosphere when guests visit your office. Avoid using bright colors such as reds or yellows in your color scheme. Bright colors often over-stimulate office visitors and cause anxiety or vision problems. If you do want to use a few bright colors, evaluate the extreme or uniqueness of long-term ownership of the furniture and the office space. Will you ever move offices or lease a different space? If yes, avoid extremes in colors, it’s harder to incorporate bright color furniture to existing office design schemes and will make the property harder to re-lease.  If you must have bright colors, We do offer some furnishings with interchangeable components that will allow you to inexpensively change the color scheme in the future.

Purchase Subtle Artwork and Accessories. When we say subtle, avoid displaying artwork that depicts people because you don’t want to give the impression your office favors specific groups of people. When you do display artwork depicting people, always go for art that shows a diverse group of people pleasantly interacting with one another.

You should also have no more than one large piece of art on each wall of your office. All artwork used should be relatively neutral and tie into the overall color scheme of the office. An office should be designed to feel homey rather than cluttered with art, furniture or home features such as vases and plants. If you do want plants in the office, go for potted trees and avoid flowering plants to reduce the risk of irritating allergies of clients and minimize the maintenance of office plants.

Purchase Office Furniture That’s Durable, Flexible and Comfortable. Shopping for office furniture can be very expensive if you are not sure about what you need, want and how it will best serve office needs.

The ideal Office furniture should last for years and withstand general wear and tear over time. It is also important to note that staffing and organizational needs can change in the office so your office furniture options should have varying features. For example, wrist supports should be available for employees who type on a regular basis and lumbar supports should be available for employees who sit for extended periods of time during the day.

No matter what you envision, Edwards & Hill is here to provide you quality furniture, great pricing and exceptional customer service. We can assemble your furniture; assist you with furniture project management and coordination services. We can also help you with interior design, space planning and more!

How Restaurant Furniture Improves Restaurant Ambience

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

It takes more than good food to attract consumers to your restaurant. Your restaurant furniture helps determine the whole ambience of your place of business as well.

The ambience of a well-received restaurant based on its color scheme and warm welcome. It’s all about providing consumers a loving environment where they can have a great time and a great meal.  It should be stylish, yet comfortable.

To create this wonderful environment for consumers, a restaurant owner should establish an interior design that flows and also creates the perception of semi- private areas while guests enjoy their food.

For example, restaurant furniture should be spacious and private enough for restaurant eaters to enjoy their meals and the restaurant atmosphere without being cramped.

The best restaurant furnishings are the ones with high durability and functionality. Ideal furniture pieces are ones that can be used easily without customers causing scratching to the texture of the restaurant furniture.  Also choose colors that don’t show streaks or stains from mopping.  You want your restaurant to be clean, but it needs to look clean, as well.  Stains on the furniture from mopping may give your restaurant a look that doesn’t match the effort that you put into keeping the place clean.

The most commonly used restaurant furniture is wood laminate or metal furniture because both materials are tough and able to endure high stress.

Bamboo, vegetative substances, resin and plastic are great materials to use for restaurant interior design because they can bring about a distinctive appearance to your restaurant that will keep the restaurant fresh on the minds and hearts of consumers and these surfaces are easily cleaned. Your restaurant will also be seen as eco-friendly because of the use of these recyclable furniture materials.

Here are essential restaurant fittings your interior design should include: booths, bars, chairs and stools, tables, cutlery and well presented cookery.

Seating arrangements in the restaurant are key.  The customers should feel really comfortable.  Food is not just for eating, but for setting the mood for gathering with those we know and love. With the right furniture, this feeling can be heightened by making it as home felt as possible.

Seating should have clean lines and be designed so they don’t catch crumbs and spills.  They should be able to withstand practically any level of strain. Again, you want to go with durable furniture material such as vinyl is tough and easy to maintain.

It is highly recommended to use furnishings that go with the theme of your restaurant.  You wouldn’t want Traditional Furniture in a Chinese Restaurant.  You wouldn’t want a Chinese theme in a Bistro? Keep them in mind to create an experience for your customers.  Lighting, music, fragrances and furniture are all important to creating an enjoyable atmosphere.

Here are some questions you should ask yourself prior to redesigning your restaurant:

  • What message are you trying to convey with your food and your environment?
  • What kind of furniture can you use to create eye-catching details in your restaurant? Subtle details that are not overpowering?

If you’re going for a home-style cooking restaurant theme, you may want to purchase furniture reminiscent of your grandmother’s kitchen such as sturdy wooden tables and chairs that stand the test of time.

If you’re going for modern restaurant furnishing, you could install dark mahogany barstools to complement elevated walnut tables. This will create a warmer environment for your restaurant made to serve children and adults alike.

No matter what you envision for your restaurant, Edwards & Hill Office Furniture is here to create an appealing and welcoming environment for your customers.

Edwards & Hill Awarded Maryland Live! Casino Contract

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

Here at Edwards & Hill Office Furniture we have exciting news to share! We have been awarded the contract to supply and install all of the back of house furniture in the new Maryland Live! Casino located at Arundel Mills Mall.

The Maryland Live! Casino is a 330,000 square foot casino valued at $500 million dollars and sits on 12 acres of land. It has 4,750 slot machines and electronic table games as well as live entertainment venues. Some acclaimed restaurants that will be within the casino are Bobby Flay’s Burger Palace, The Cheesecake Factory and Phillips Seafood.

Maryland Live! Casino is scheduled to open June 6th 2012! See the Maryland Live! Casino website for more details at www.marylandlivecasino.com.

Whether you need to furnish a multi-million dollar casino or a small office, you need to follow the right trends. When you keep up with modern designs in your casino, you encourage repeat customers and make it likely that your customers will stay and play a while.  Though the furniture needs to be trendy, it is equally important that the furniture be comfortable.

Focus your furniture design choices more on your target market/visitors preferences than solely your personal decorative desires to make sure you’re your Casino appeals to your guests.

Here are just a few furnishing suggestions to help you make your casino the talk of the town:

When decorating a casino, it is far different than decorating your home or office. In your home living space you can place chairs where you want, paint your walls your favorite color, and furnish it with any style of chairs and tables. When decorating a commercial casino, you need to concentrate on what your target market wants and how that fits into your business model.

Commercial casinos call for a comfortable setting. You want your customers to be excited and have fun, but you also want to make sure that they are comfortable.  Make sure that the interior exudes excitement with a fashion forward feeling.  You don’t want your customers going someplace else because your Casino is outdated and drab.

While there will undoubtedly be different areas of your Casino, you should be sure to tie the entire space together with a common theme, carpet, lights, etc.  When people walk in the door they should say, “WOW!”

No matter what you envision, Edwards & Hill is here to provide you quality furniture and exceptional customer services. We can assemble your furniture. We can assist you with furniture project management and coordination services. We can help you with your interior design, space planning and more!

Visit Maryland Live! Casino this June to see what Edwards and Hill can do for you!
