2020: Hotel Trend Predictions

Hotel-Trends-2020As we continue to embrace the start of 2015, many of those involved with the hospitality business are looking forward to the future still. While 2020 may seem far away, it is only a short 5 years from where we stand today. Recently, Hotel News Now asked several experts about their hotel trend predictions for 2020, and how our current trends are molding the future.

Dan Welborn of The Gettys Group had several predictions surrounding the future of hotel trends. Welborn believes that the main trend will be the molding of the available technology with the available physical space of the hotel. He highlighted a trend that is already on the rise, the disappearance of the traditional front desk. As technology continues to evolve, the front desk could potentially be eliminated, allowing guests to check in and out virtually while providing more physical room for other design options.

Amy Jakubowski of Puccini Group also highlighted the trend of the disappearing front desk. She also went further with the technology prediction, saying how its evolution will give designers more options when designing. She gave the example of the television. Before the flat screen television, designers had to incorporate larger pieces of furniture to hold the larger appliance. As appliances, such as the television, begin to shrink in size, designers have more room to explore with furniture.

Robert Polacek, also with Puccini Group, highlighted the increasing trend in environment awareness. He predicts that hotel trends will continue to shift in ways that will decrease the emissions released by the industry, while also shrinking the carbon footprint left behind. He also predicted that the development of 3D and laser printing will have a serious influence on furniture and design production.
