How To Improve Office Space Efficiency

Did you know that space efficiency is in demand for furniture design and office design layout?

It’s true. Space efficiency is becoming more popular because business organizations are searching for ways to effectively use office space to ride out the financial downturn.

In other words, successful company’s office furniture should take up less space and leave more space for work flexibility and collaboration in the office.

This space optimization does not mean employees will spend all of their work hours engaged in collaboration but employees will need workspace for both collaborative and individual functions.

Space and time should be efficiently used at all times in the office.

When workers are more efficient, office furniture and office layout can have more flexibility.

For example, smaller individual offices can be designed with comfortable and efficient furniture. Or cubicles of 6 by 7 feet can be arranged throughout the office for better usage of space.

The following are ways you can make the office more efficient in space and productivity:

  1. Purchase office technology that is smaller and thinner. Technology tools used to find data are now smaller, faster and more powerful than desktop computers. Provide your employees laptops, iPads or tablets as efficient alternatives to desktop computers. The iPad is the same size as an 8 ½ by 11-inch piece of paper. Or create portable videoconferencing units in the office. All you will need for this type of videoconferencing setup are bar-height seating and flat screen monitors. Employees can easily plug up laptops and conduct presentations from the portable videoconferencing units. Place the units where you need them and save the conference room for other office necessities.
  2. Get rid of the file storage rooms and use instead overhead storage compartments. This will help your office begin the process of becoming a paperless office. This paperless initiative will truly create a more spacious office environment.
  3. Help Your Employees become more acceptable to collaborative work. You can start to accomplish this goal by making employees able to see more around their work areas. How much viewing space is necessary will all depend on each employee’s function. Allow your employees to express their ideas on how to best enhance the office space while maintaining a comfortable look and feel to the office. Remember, the work environment is a place where employees will spend most of their time.
