Healthcare Facilities Helping our Aging Population

Healthcare Facilities

A large percentage of our nation’s population is nearing the age, or already past the age of 65. We are entering a period where our elders are learning to give up their freedoms while the younger generation is learning ways to help the transition. Our population is beginning to live longer, but not necessarily in the best shape. Those over the age of 65 are beginning to lose their balance, hearing, and sight, making it difficult to live alone. In 2012 alone, almost 24,000 adults over the age of 65 passed away as a result from a fall. That same year, over 2.4 million adults over the age of 65 were treated in emergency rooms as a result from a fall.

This is why many are beginning to move to a number of different healthcare facilities to ensure their safety. As these healthcare facilities begin to see an increase in numbers, they are finding ways to ensure the safety of their inhabitants while not infringing on their rights as human beings. Healthcare facilities are incorporating furniture that is sturdier and eliminating pieces that can be easily broken or pushed over should someone fall. Healthcare facilities are also using lighting, contrasting colors, and striping to help those living within the facility. Lighting is being installed along hallways and walkways to make it easier to see. Contrasting colors are used when installing new toilet seats and baths, which help those who are dealing with cataracts and glaucoma to see the porcelain better. Striping is being incorporated with stairs and ledges to show the drop, helping to prevent falls.

Increasing Office Productivity

Thursday, October 30th, 2014

Office ProductivityIf you believe your office productivity is reaching lower levels, some office revamping may be in order. When business owners find office productivity lacking, they typically assume there is something wrong with their staff, which might not be the case. There have been several studies that show how the furniture and lighting within an office space can affect overall office productivity.

Office Productivity Statistics

  1. Those working in an office with a window spend about 15% more time on task compared to those without a window.
  2. Multiple computer screens are known to increase office productivity anywhere from 9 to 50%.
  3. An office that had proper lighting and ventilation is known to have increased office productivity by 16%.
  4. 4.3 hours are wasted each week by the average employee as they search for papers and other information.

Ways to Boost Office Productivity

  1. Place desks in areas that have the most natural light available. This will eliminate the need for overhead lighting, which is known to cause headaches.
  2. Choose ergonomic chairs over normal office chairs. Ergonomic chairs are known to increase office productivity and providing health benefits as well.
  3. Use file cabinets to help employees stay more organized with their papers.
  4. Realize that some office areas require different furniture than others. Determine what your employees need before ordering their desks and other furniture. Some employees require larger desks than others while some may need larger file cabinets than others.
  5. Try to incorporate artwork throughout the office to help increase office productivity as well as office creativity.

Does Your Office Space Need an Update?

Monday, October 20th, 2014

Office Space UpdateIn today’s society, most industries are constantly changing. When it comes to working within or running an office space, layout designs and furniture ideas are always changing. Companies are constantly creating new ways for their office spaces to become more welcoming for clients while promoting productivity within their staff. If you believe your office space has become outdated, there is no need to panic. There are several easy ways to update your office space to create your desired outcome.

Updates to your Office Space

  1. Custom Artwork- A great way to make a subtle yet effective change to your office space is to add custom artwork throughout your space. This allows you the opportunity to express your company’s values and goals while also promoting productivity and creativity within your office space.
  2. Flooring- You can create a unique look throughout your office space by using a different style of flooring for each area. Use a more durable material for high traffic areas while using a more delicate or lighter colored material for low traffic areas throughout your office space.
  3. Conversational Piece- Choose a bold piece of furniture as a conversational piece in a communal area of your office space. Having a different lamp in the conference room or a bold chair in a reception area will encourage collaboration and discussions.
  4. Lighting- Different types of lamps and light sources allow you to update the atmosphere of your office space.  Use different light bulbs along with different lamp styles to create the lighting you desire for your office space.
  5. Accent Colors- Instead of repainting your entire office space; choose a few walls to paint in accent colors. This will bring a new personality into the office while also promoting creativity, enthusiasm, and productivity.
  6. Interactive Conference Room- Is your conference room too formal? Is it hard for your staff to collaborate or discuss projects in your conference room? Consider a new table that allows staff to communicate effectively.
  7. Organization- File cabinets can give your office a dull and stuffy look. Find new and innovative ways to organize your office space. The organizational schemes should be creative, yet productive as well.
