Work can be a stress inducing environment that no one wants to spend time at, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There are a number of ways you can make your office space more comfortable and reminiscent of home. Making your workplace your own second home will help you to be much more productive and efficient. If you’re working full-time, you’re probably already spending a large portion of your day in the office, so why not invest in a better space? Here’s what you can do.
Frames – If your office has real walls, finding some art to dress it up is not a terrible idea. Buy something that will inspire you and put you in a good mood every time you look at it.
Lighting – You would be surprised just how much lighting can affect your mood around the office. Cold, overhead fluorescents can make you feel like you’re trapped in a prison. Whether it’s finding ways to incorporate natural light or installing some of your own fixtures, you change your whole world with new lighting features.
Rugs – Even if it’s something small, a rug can make a huge different in making your space feel warmer and more homely.
Wall decor and colors – Have you considered faux wallpaper or adding images, fabric, or nice paper to cubicle walls? If you are stuck in a very neutral setting, adding some color and texture to get out the grays can do a lot to brighten your day to day.
Flowers and plants – Bring nature’s beauty inside! Even a fake plant can give you a glimpse into the outside world and make getting to the end of the day a little bit easier. You can also make a self-made terrarium to keep on your desk for some low-maintenance nature fun.
Accessories – A cool vase or cup to put your supplies in, or some fun knick-knacks on your desk can give your space a ton more personality.
Blankets, chair warmers – If your office chair feels stiff and uncomfortable, a blanket draped over the top can do a lot toward making it more comfortable and home-like.
